Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) for Counselors

November 14, 2025

8:30 am

12:00 pm

Virtual

In today’s diverse and interconnected world, mental health counselors and therapists encounter clients with a rich tapestry of cultural identities. At no other time has it been more critical for these professionals to possess the knowledge, awareness, and educational foundation necessary to support clients from various backgrounds. These backgrounds encompass national origins, age, race, ethnicity, religion/faith, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, and socioeconomic status. To meet the evolving needs of 21st-century clients and populations, it is imperative that counselors and therapists equip themselves with the skills and understanding of their own cultural competence.

Private practices and organizations can reserve their own dates with a deposit.

Who This Is For:

  • Private Practice Groups
  • Counseling Agencies
  • Nonprofit Mental Health Organizations
  • Clinical Supervisors & Counseling Teams
  • Practice Owners Investing in Culturally Competent Care

The Challenge

Unfortunately, in many counselors’ educational journeys, fewer than (5) five courses are often required to fulfill their educational prerequisites for their masters. However, it is increasingly beneficial for counselors to embark on a journey towards a more profound understanding of their own cultural competence and develop professional skills that empower them to navigate the complexities of the modern world.

My Solution

I offer a comprehensive and highly interactive service to help counselors and therapists enhance their cultural competence. This offer includes the opportunity for these professionals to take the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), a powerful tool designed to help develop culturally competent individuals and professionals. I have outlined a comprehensive guide filled with resources specifically tailored to counselors/therapists. Once they’ve completed the workshop, they will have the resources to support their journey on the culturally competent continuum.

What the IDI Is… and Isn’t

The IDI IS:

  • A validated, research-based tool
  • A developmental roadmap for cultural competence
  • A professional tool for both personal reflection and organizational growth

The IDI IS NOT:

  • A judgment of character or morality
  • A test of bias, prejudice, or ethics
  • A diagnostic tool for racism, sexism, or any “-ism”
